WHY medicine? With Dr Ed Rose

Dr Ed Rose is a Sydney-based doctor currently at PGY3. He’s also one-half of indie electronic duo HI MOTIVE. He’s been passionate about music and the arts as well as human biology since high school and says that he was advised to pursue medicine first.

“I’m happy with the process I’ve taken. I went straight from high school into doing medicine and now I’m pausing that to do my music. I’m really happy and feel very lucky that I have both those options,” he says.

Why did I become a doctor?

My decision to become a doctor probably first grew from my interest in biology and the human anatomy at school, along with my aspirations to forge a career in something that would have a direct positive impact on my community and generally towards society as a whole. As well as that, I always knew that I wanted to have a job that revolved around face-to-face interactions rather than an office-based job. I'm still working my way towards figuring out which area of medicine suits me best, but the diversity of options makes it a healthy challenge.
